The Smartchat.net.au Leak Puts 3,040 Accounts at Risk of Takeover
The Smartchat.net.au Combolist: 3,040 Accounts Tied Together in One File
HEROIC analysts found a combolist named smartchat.net.au uploaded to a Telegram channel on May 25, 2026, containing 3,040 records that pair email addresses with plaintext passwords and the specific website URLs each login was used on. The file was verified and added to HEROIC's breach database on August 28, 2026.
Why This Is Dangerous
Because every record links an email and password directly to the URL it was used on, this is not a jumbled list an attacker has to guess at. It is a ready-made map of 3,040 working logins across whatever sites those URLs point to. If any of those passwords were reused on a banking site, email account, or shopping platform, that single password can unlock accounts far beyond the one it was originally stolen from.
What Was Exposed
- Email addresses
- Plaintext passwords
- URLs linking each login to the site it was used on
Why This Matters
One stolen password rarely stays confined to one account. Attackers take combolists like this one and run every pair through other popular services in a technique called credential stuffing, betting that people reuse the same password across multiple sites. When it works, the result is a chain reaction: one leaked password leads to account takeover on a second site, then a third, opening the door to identity theft and financial fraud along the way.
How Combolists Work
A combolist gathers emails or usernames and passwords, often pulled from separate smaller breaches, phishing pages, or infected devices, and merges them into a single searchable file. Because they are cheap to build and require no special skills to use, combolists like smartchat.net.au circulate widely on Telegram and dark web forums, where attackers pick them up to test against dozens of websites at once.
Check If You Are Affected
If you want to know whether your email is one of the 3,040 caught up in the smartchat.net.au combolist, or in any other breach, HEROIC's free scanner checks your address against a database of more than 400 billion leaked records. A quick search tells you exactly what was exposed so you can change the right passwords before anyone else uses them first.
