Source Type Database
Origin Darkweb
Password Type plaintext & MD5 & no passwords

HEROIC analysts identified a database breach tied to Stock Bangladesh, a trading platform based in Bangladesh, exposing 66,485 records. The breach is dated to July 1, 2015. Password protection across this dataset was inconsistent: some accounts had passwords stored in plaintext, others were hashed with the outdated MD5 algorithm, and some accounts had no password data recorded at all.

Why the Mixed Password Exposure at Stock Bangladesh Is Dangerous

Plaintext passwords need no cracking at all, an attacker can read and use them immediately. MD5 is not much safer in practice. It was designed for speed rather than security, and modern hardware can run billions of guesses per second against it, which means most MD5-hashed passwords fall quickly once someone bothers to try. Between the plaintext and MD5 portions of this dataset, a large share of the exposed passwords are effectively usable by anyone who downloads the file.

What Was Exposed in the Stock Bangladesh Breach

  • 66,485 total exposed records
  • Plaintext passwords for a portion of accounts
  • MD5-hashed passwords for another portion of accounts
  • Some accounts with no password data recorded

Why This Matters for Stock Bangladesh Users

Stock Bangladesh is a trading platform, so an account here may be linked to financial activity beyond just a username and password. If someone reused their Stock Bangladesh password anywhere else, especially on email or banking accounts, an attacker who recovers that password can attempt credential stuffing to break into those other accounts. That chain of access is how a decade-old breach can still lead to account takeover, identity theft, or financial fraud today.

How Database Breaches Like This Happen

A database breach occurs when an attacker gains direct access to a company's stored user records, often through a vulnerable server, an outdated application, or exposed administrator credentials. Once inside, the attacker copies the user table as-is. When a platform stores some passwords in plaintext and others with a weak hashing algorithm like MD5, a single breach can hand over a large number of fully usable credentials with very little extra effort required.
