HEROIC analysts first identified the GFAN database circulating on dark web forums in late 2016, when over 4.7 million records were reportedly extracted from the Chinese shopping platform. The breach, which occured on October 10, 2016, exposed email addresses, usernames, IP addresses, and SHA1-hashed passwords with salt values. While the full dump has been claimed to contain 22.7 million accounts, the verified subset of 4,740,724 records contains enough detail to pose a serious ongoing threat to affected users.
