In August 2023, HEROIC analysts flagged a stealer log upload on Telegram, distributed under the channel name TimberTreasures-LogsFree, that exposed 5,248 records. Each record contained a stolen email address, a plaintext password, and the URL of the service the credential belonged to. The log was freely shared in a Telegram community before being captured and indexed in HEROIC's breach intelligence database for monitoring purposes.

Your Login Data May Already Be Compromised. The TimberTreasures-LogsFree Breach Exposed 5,248 Accounts.

When a stealer log is uploaded to a public Telegram channel and freely distributed, the window for damage opens immediately. Anyone who downloaded the TimberTreasures-LogsFree file had access to 5,248 email and plaintext password combinations, ready to test against live accounts. Credential stuffing tools automate this process, running thousands of login attempts per minute across services like Gmail, banking portals, and e-commerce platforms. The people in this dataset had no warning. For many, the adress in that file may still be their active login today.

What the TimberTreasures-LogsFree Upload Contained

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • URLs (the specific websites users were actively logged into when the malware captured their credentials)

Freely distributed stealer logs like this one are particularly damaging because the data was not sold or hidden behind paywalls. It was given away, meaning a large number of actors could have downloaded and used it simultaneously.

Why a Free Telegram Stealer Log Is More Dangerous Than a Paid Breach

Data that is freely distributed reaches far more hands than data sold on criminal marketplaces. The TimberTreasures-LogsFree naming convention indicates the log was shared without restriction. This means the credential pairs from this upload were likely tested and exploited quickly, with multiple threat actors acting on the same data at the same time. Account takeover attempts, identity theft, and unauthorized access to financial services are all common downstream outcomes. If any person in this dataset reused the same password elsewhere, those accounts are still at risk right now. The damage from this breach occured quickly, and the credential data can still be found in recirculated collections on the dark web.

How Free Telegram Stealer Logs Like TimberTreasures Are Produced

Stealer logs begin with an infostealer malware infection on a victim's personal or work device. The malware arrives via phishing links, fake software installers, or browser vulnerabilities. Once running, it silently extracts passwords saved in browsers, captures keystrokes during login sessions, and records session tokens. That data is formatted into a log file and sent to the attacker. Some attackers sell logs privately. Others, like the operator behind TimberTreasures-LogsFree, upload them to Telegram channels where they are distributed freely to maximize reputation or to trade for other data. The victims never recieve any notification. Their credentials become part of a freely circulating dataset that persists indefinitely.
