HEROIC Researchers Link Trident_Cloud to 3,863 Stolen Credentials
Trident_Cloud Stealer Log Exposes 3,863 Records
HEROIC analysts identified a stealer log file called Trident_Cloud, uploaded by a Telegram user on August 31, 2024. Researchers traced the file to 3,863 records, each linking an email address to a plaintext password and the URL of the account that login belonged to. Most of the exposed accounts trace back to users in the United States.
Why Researchers Flagged This Leak as High Risk
What stood out to analysts was not the size of the file but the state of the data inside it. None of the passwords were hashed or encrypted, meaning every credential is readable and usable the instant someone opens the file, already matched to the exact site it unlocks.
What the Trident_Cloud Leak Contains
- Email addresses
- Plaintext passwords
- URLs tied to each set of credentials
Why This Matters
Because each credential is stored in plain text and mapped to a specific site, attackers can move directly to testing logins rather than cracking hashes. Anyone among these 3,863 people who reused a password elsewhere is at risk of credential stuffing, where the same login is tried across banking, email, and social media accounts. That risk can quickly escalate into account takeover, identity theft, or financial fraud.
How Stealer Logs Like Trident_Cloud Work
Stealer logs are the product of infostealer malware that infects a device and quietly copies saved browser passwords, autofill data, and session details. Once harvested, that information is packaged into a log file and distributed through channels like Telegram, often within days of infection. Most victims have no idea their credentials were exposed until researchers or attackers spot a log like this one circulating.
