In January 2026, HEROIC identified a stealer log called HQ Mail Access Rangersupporttt being shared on Telegram. This dataset specifically targets U.S. users and contains 1,093 records of email credentials harvested from malware-infected devices. Each record pairs an email address with its plaintext password and the URL of the mail service where the credentials were captured, giving attackers direct access to victims' inboxes.

Plaintext Passwords Leave Accounts Defenseless

Every credential in this leak is stored without any form of encryption or hashing. Attackers can use these passwords immediately without any technical effort. For email accounts specifically, this is catastrophic because email is the master key to most online identities. Password resets, two-factor authentication codes, and account recovery links all flow through email, meaning a compromised inbox can lead to the loss of every connected account.

What Was Exposed

  • Email addresses
  • Plaintext passwords
  • URLs of email services and other platforms

Credential Stuffing and the Email Account Chain Reaction

When attackers obtain email credentials, they do not stop at reading messages. They use automated credential stuffing tools to test the same email and password combination across banking platforms, social media, e-commerce sites, and cloud services. Because the majority of people reuse passwords, gaining access to one email account often opens the door to an entire digital life. Attackers can then use the compromised email to reset passwords on other services, locking the original owner out entirely.

How Infostealers Capture Mail Credentials

Infostealer malware operates silently after installation, typically arriving through phishing emails, fraudulent downloads, or compromised websites. Once active, it captures every credential stored in web browsers, email clients, and password managers. The malware specifically targets mail access credentials because of their high value in underground markets. The HQ Mail Access Rangersupporttt dataset was compiled from these stolen credentials and distributed through Telegram channels frequented by cybercriminals.
