In October 2023, security researchers found a stealer log file shared on Telegram under the name YOULOGS 880pcsMIX. The file held 12,727 records, each containing an email address, a plaintext password, and the URL of the website or service those credentials were used on. The upload was public, meaning anyone following that Telegram channel could download the entire set of credentials and start using them. The information was not taken from a company server. It was collected from the personal devices of real people whose computers were silently infected with malware.

Why This Is Dangerous

Attackers do not need to do any extra work when passwords are already in plaintext. They can load the entire file into an automated tool and attempt to log in to email providers, banks, shopping sites, and social media platforms using each combination. The URLs included in the file tell them which services those passwords were already confirmed on, making the attack even more targeted. With over 12,000 credential pairs in one place, even a small success rate translates to hundreds of compromised accounts.

What Was Exposed in the YOULOGS 880pcsMIX Stealer Log

  • Email addresses
  • Plaintext passwords (no encryption, fully readable)
  • Website and service URLs associated with each credential pair
  • Endpoint identifiers from infected devices

Why This Matters

Password reuse is extremely common, and that is what makes credential leaks like YOULOGS 880pcsMIX so damaging. A password stolen from one site can unlock accounts on dozens of others. Account takeovers lead to identity theft, fraudulent purchases, unauthorised loan applications, and in some cases criminals using a victims email to target their friends and family with scams. The process from stolen credential to real-world harm can happen within hours of a file being shared. Victims often do not recieve any notification that anything has gone wrong until it is too late.

How Stealer Logs Work

Infostealer malware spreads through phishing emails, fake software installers, cracked games, and malicious browser extensions. When someone downloads or clicks on the wrong thing, the malware installs itself silently and begins reading saved passwords from browsers like Chrome and Firefox. It also captures active login cookies, which let attackers take over sessions without even needing a password. Everything it collects gets packaged into a log file and sent to the person running the malware. That file then gets traded or posted publicly. The infected person typically has no idea any of this occured on their device.
