If You Reuse Passwords, the 20_Boss Telegram Leak Should Worry You
In August 2023, HEROIC analysts discovered a stealer log file shared on Telegram by a user operating under the handle "20_Boss" that contained 2,291 records. Each record included an email address, a plaintext password, and a URL captured at the moment of theft. These credentials were not stolen through a corporate data breach but were pulled directly off real people's computers by infostealer malware, making this data especially accurate and immediately usable by anyone who received the file.
Why This Is Dangerous
Plaintext passwords require no decryption or technical skill to exploit. A criminal who downloads this file can immediately begin attempting to log into the accounts associated with the captured email addresses. Because URLs are also included, attackers know exactly which banking portals, email services, and work systems to target first. This combination of email, password, and target URL in a single file dramatically lowers the barrier for account takeover attacks.
