In February 2024, HEROIC analysts discovered a stealer log named "ATM_LOGS" uploaded to Telegram by an anonymous user. The file contained 10,080 records lifted from infected devices, combining email addresses, plaintext passwords, and the URLs of the accounts they unlock.

Why This Is Dangerous

What makes a leak like this so damaging is not just the first account it opens, but everything that follows. One stolen email and password pair rarely stays contained. Attackers use it as a starting point to chase down other accounts belonging to the same person.

What Was Exposed

  • Email addresses
  • Plaintext passwords
  • URLs of the associated accounts

Why This Matters

This is the chain reaction attackers count on. They start with credential stuffing on the leaked email and password, gain account takeover on one service, then use that access to reset passwords elsewhere or mine personal details for identity theft. From there, financial fraud is often just a few clicks away, especially if the compromised account is linked to a bank card or payment app.

How Stealer Logs Work

Malware behind logs like ATM_LOGS typically arrives through a fake download, cracked application, or malicious link. Once it takes hold on a device, it quietly pulls saved passwords and autofill data straight out of the browser, then bundles the haul into a single log file. These files circulate cheaply, or even for free, in Telegram channels dedicated to trading stolen data.
