CLOUDCOSMIC Stealer Leak: 3,193 Passwords Risk a Chain Reaction
HEROIC analysts identified a stealer log file called 147 PCS - CLOUDCOSMIC 2, dated January 8, 2023, and uploaded to a public Telegram channel. The file contained 3,193 exposed records, including email addresses, plaintext passwords, and the URLs of the accounts those credentials belong to, all harvested directly from infected devices.
Why This Sets Off a Chain Reaction
A single infected device rarely means a single compromised account. Infostealer malware pulls every saved login from the browser at once, so one infection here can hand attackers the keys to a person's email, banking, shopping, and social accounts in one shot. From there, a compromised email account can be used to reset passwords on other services, extending the damage far beyond the original 3,193 records.
What Was Exposed
- Email addresses
- Plaintext passwords
- URLs of the associated login pages and accounts
Why This Matters
Because these passwords are stored in plaintext and already matched to a login URL, they are ready to use immediately in credential stuffing attacks. Anyone who reused a password is at risk of account takeover, and the chain can extend into identity theft and financial fraud once an attacker gains a foothold in one account.
How Stealer Log Breaches Happen
Stealer logs like CLOUDCOSMIC 2 come from infostealer malware that infects a device through a phishing link, cracked software, or a fake installer. Once active, it scans the browser for saved logins and autofill data, then bundles everything into a log tied to that machine. Criminals collect thousands of these logs and upload or sell them in bulk, which is how this dataset became public.
