HEROIC analysts recently identified the gobiz25 data breach circulating in underground forums, originally occured in August 2018. This breach affected 31,393 users of gobiz25, a now-defunct Malaysian e-advertising platform operated under Goody Technologies. The exposed data included email addresses and MD5 password hashes, making every account holder in this dataset a potential target for attackers who have since had years to crack and exploit these credentials.

Why Exposed Email and Password Hash Combos Are Dangerous

When attackers get access to email and password hash combinations, they do not stop at one account. MD5 hashes are partcularly easy to crack using modern tools and precomputed lookup tables, meaning the original plaintext passwords are often recoverable within minutes. Once cracked, those credentials are tested across banking, shopping, and social media platforms in large-scale automated attacks.

Why This gobiz25 Breach Still Puts You at Risk Today

Many people used the same password on gobiz25 that they used elsewhere in 2018. If you have not changed those passwords since, you are still exposed. Credential stuffing attacks rely on this exact behavior, where attackers use old leaked logins to break into current accounts, leading to account takeover, identity theft, and in some cases financial fraud. The beleive that old breaches carry no risk is one of the most dangerous misconceptions in personal cybersecurity.

How Database Breaches Work

A database breach happens when an attacker gains unauthorized access to a company's stored user data, usually by exploiting a vulnerability in a web application, a misconfigured server, or weak access controls. Once inside, the attacker exports the user database, which typically contains account credentials and personal details. That data is then sold or shared in private forums, often resurfacing years later in new credential dumps.
