The GODELESS CLOUD Breach Put 9,874 Stolen Email and Password Pairs Online
In July 2023, HEROIC identified a stealer log file uploaded to a public Telegram channel containing 9,874 records from a source labeled "GODELESS CLOUD." Each record in the file paired an email address directly with a plaintext password and the URL of the service where those credentials were used. The data required no decryption and no special tools to exploit, placing thousands of accounts in immediate danger the moment the file was posted online.
Why This Puts Your Accounts at Risk
Having your email and plaintext password listed in a public file means any person who downloads it can attempt to log into your accounts with no techincal skill required. Attackers use automated software to test leaked credentials against hundreds of websites simultaneously. A successful login can lead to locked accounts, stolen funds, unauthorized purchases, or the use of your email to attack others. The URLs included in this log also tell attackers exactly where those credentials were originally used, giving them a precise starting point.
What Was Exposed
- Email Addresses
- Plaintext Passwords
- URLs (service and API endpoint addresses)
Why This Matters to You
The GODELESS CLOUD stealer log placed 9,874 email and password pairs directly into the hands of criminals. If your credentials were in that file, every account where you use the same email and password combination is now vulnerable. Credential stuffing attacks, account takeovers, and identity fraud are common outcomes when stealer logs like this one are distributed on Telegram. These files do not expire and continue to be used by bad actors long after they are first posted.
How Stealer Log Breaches Work
Infostealer malware is designed to run quietly in the background of an infected device. It captures login credentials as users type them into websites and applications, recording the email address, password, and web address for each login. Once a device is fully harvested, the malware sends the collected log back to the attacker. That log is then shared or sold through channels like Telegram, where others can immediatly download and use the stolen credential pairs against real accounts.
