Cloud Users Exposed: GODELESS CLOUD Telegram Leak Hit 5,482 Accounts
In August 2023, HEROIC analysts discovered a stealer log file shared freely on Telegram under the name GODELESS CLOUD. The file was uploaded by an anonymous Telegram user and contained 5,482 records harvested from infected machines in the United States. The exposed data included email addresses, plaintext passwords, and the URLs of the websites where those credentials were stolen.
Why This Is Dangerous
Cloud service credentials are among the most valueable targets for cybercriminals. When someone's email and password are exposed in plaintext, attackers can access cloud storage accounts, corporate tools, email inboxes, and any service linked to that login. Because cloud platforms often store sensitive documents, photos, and financial records, a single compromised account can expose far more than just one password.
What Was Exposed
- Email Addresses
- Plaintext Passwords
- URLs (the websites where credentials were captured)
Why This Matters
Credential stuffing is the primary threat from a breach like GODELESS CLOUD. Attackers take the exposed email and password combinations and run them against popular services like Gmail, Dropbox, OneDrive, and dozens of others. Because many people reuse the same password, one breached record can unlock multiple accounts. This opens the door to account takeover, identity theft, and financial fraud at scale.
How Stealer Logs Work
A stealer log is created by a type of malware called an infostealer. Once this malware is installed on a victim's computer, usually through a phishing link or a fake software download, it begins recording every username and password entered in the browser. It also captures the URLs of the sites where logins occured and can pull saved passwords from the browser's built-in password manager. All of this data is compiled into a log file and sent to the attacker. Files like GODELESS CLOUD are then shared on Telegram groups or dark web markets, sometimes for free, to attract attention or as a teaser for larger paid collections.
