HelloKittyCloud Breach: 6,122 Passwords Leaked in Hours
In late November 2023, HEROIC analysts flagged a stealer log file circulating on Telegram under the name "HelloKittyCloud 404." The file had been uploaded by a Telegram user and contained 6,122 records harvested directly from infected devices, including email addresses, plaintext passwords, and the URLs of the sites those credentials unlocked.
Why This Is Dangerous
Stealer logs are different from a typical corporate breach. Instead of one company losing a database, malware quietly sat on someone's computer and recorded every login as it happened. That means the passwords in this leak are current, working credentials, not old data from a hack years ago. An attacker with this file can log directly into real accounts without guessing or cracking anything.
What Was Exposed
- Email addresses
- Plaintext passwords
- URLs of the associated login pages
Why This Matters
Because the passwords are stored in plaintext and paired with the exact URL they belong to, this data is essentially a ready-made login kit. Criminals use lists like this for credential stuffing, account takeover, and identity theft. If a victim reused that password anywhere else, banking apps, email, social media, the damage can spread far beyond the original site and lead to financial fraud.
How Stealer Logs Work
Stealer malware infects a device through a fake download, cracked software, or a malicious email attachment. Once installed, it quitely scans the browser for saved passwords, autofill data, and session cookies, then packages everything into a single log file. These logs are frequently sold or shared for free on Telegram channels, where anyone can download and use them within minutes of upload.
