HEROIC analysts recieved intelligence in August 2021 pointing to a leaked database dump tied to Pokermagia, an Italian online poker platform. The breach exposed 665,159 user records containing email addresses, usernames, password hashes, and salts. The data surfaced on a dark web forum where threat actors were actively trading credential sets from gaming and gambling sites.

How Cracked Password Hashes Put Pokermagia Users at Risk

Even though the passwords were stored as MD5 hashes with salts, MD5 is considered a weak hashing algorithm and can be cracked with modern GPU-based tools. This type of attack, known as credential stuffing, is partcularly effective against users of niche sites who often recycle passwords.
