On December 29, 2023, a Telegram user uploaded a stealer log file called ShadowLogs_Cloud containing 5,215 records from users in the United States. While the number may seem small compared to larger breaches, each record in a stealer log represents a real device that was actively infected and actively harvested. These are not old credentials sitting in a stale database. They were live when they were stolen, and plaintext passwords were included throughout.

Why This Is Dangerous


Stealer logs with plaintext passwords are the most immediately exploitable category of leaked data. The ShadowLogs_Cloud dataset required no cracking, no decryption, and no additional processing. Any threat actor who downloaded the file had working credentials in hand within seconds of opening it.

With email adresses paired alongside passwords and URLs, each record told attackers not just who the user was but exactly which service they were logged into. That level of specificity is what makes stealer logs so much more dangerous than generic credential dumps. Credential stuffing tools recieved structured, labeled input that dramatically increases success rates across automated login attempts.

How Stealer Log Works

That log file is then transmitted back to the attacker, where it joins a collection of similar files. Bundles like ShadowLogs_Cloud are then shared on Telegram or traded on underground forums, often with metadata indicating the number of files or records included, such as the 310 FILES label in this dataset's name.

One of the most frustrating aspects of this attack type is that the occurance of the infection and the public sharing of the log can be separated by months. Victims have no warning, no notification, and no opportunity to act before their credentials are already circulating. By the time a log appears publicly on Telegram, the window to prevent harm has usually already closed.
