Password Type Plaintext

HEROIC analysts found this data on September 12, 2024, when a user identified as "uniqum" posted a credential dump titled "ChronosCloud ULP 09/07/24" to LeakBase. The leak exposed 229,852 records containing email addresses, plaintext passwords, and homepage URLs collected by infostealer malware. This was one of two consecutive-day dumps from the same actor: the companion release covering September 8, 2024 is documented here: LeakBase ChronosCloud ULP 09/08/24 by uniqum.

When a dump includes plaintext passwords alongside email addresses, the attacker's workload drops to near zero. There is no hashing to crack, no encoding to reverse. Each record in this file is a ready-to-use login credential. The homepage URLs added to each entry reveal exactly which platform or service the credential was captured from, so a criminal using this data does not have to test blindly. They already know where each credential works.

Why This Matters

Account takeover is the most immediate consequence of a credential dump like this. Attackers feed the email-and-password pairs into automated tools that test them across hundreds of services simultaneously. Banking platforms, email providers, subscription services, and corporate login portals are all targeted. When a match is found, the attacker can drain funds, extract personal information, or use the compromised account as a pivot point for further attacks. For many victims, the first sign anything is wrong comes after money has been moved or accounts have already been locked by the attacker changing the password. Identity theft and financial fraud follow closely from that point.

How Database Breaches Work

This dump originates from infostealer malware, a category of software designed to silently extract credentials from infected devices. The malware typically arrives through phishing emails, malicious browser extensions, or counterfeit downloads. Once installed, it copies passwords saved in browsers, captures active session cookies, and records login keystrokes. All of that data is sent back to attacker infrastructure, where it is compiled into formatted logs. The ULP (URL, Login, Password) format used in this dump is a standard structure that makes the data immediately compatible with credential stuffing tools. The resulting files are then sold or posted on underground platforms like LeakBase for wider criminal use.
