HEROIC analysts tracked a stealer log published to BreachForums on September 12, 2024, catalogued as Private Satanic 10M ULP Part 2 Sept #5 and attributed to the threat actor operating under the handle "Satanic." This dump contained 2,826,850 unique records, each pairing an email address with a plaintext password and the homepage URL of the site where the credential was harvested. This is the fifth installment in a ten-part series released by the same actor on the same date, following a separate set of ten logs posted just one week prior. Related parts of this series include Part 2 Sept #1, Part 2 Sept #2, Part 2 Sept #6, and others listed below.

The danger of this dataset is direct and immediate. Plaintext passwords require no decryption: an attacker downloads the file and has working login credentials they can test against any service that shares the same email address. With nearly three million records in this single release, automated credential stuffing tools can cycle through banking apps, email providers, and e-commerce platforms in minutes. The homepage URL field makes the attack even more precise by identifying the exact service each credential belongs to, allowing attackers to prioritize high-value targets.

Why This Matters

Stealer log dumps of this scale fuel a secondary economy of account takeover. Criminals buy and resell access to compromised accounts, use them to conduct financial fraud, harvest additional credentials from those accounts' contact lists, and launch further phishing campaigns. Because plaintext passwords are often reused across many sites, a single compromised credential in this dump can cascade into multiple account breaches for the same victim. The systematic ten-part release pattern also signals an organized and persistent threat actor, not a casual opportunist.

How Database Breaches Work

Stealer logs are produced by infostealer malware installed covertly on victims' computers, often through phishing emails, malicious software downloads, or compromised browser extensions. Once active, the malware monitors browser activity, captures login credentials as they are typed or autofilled, and records the associated website URL. All captured data is transmitted to the attacker's server, aggregated into log files, and then sold or distributed on platforms like BreachForums. Because the malware intercepts credentials before the browser encrypts them, the captured passwords are stored in plaintext, making them immediately usable for further attacks.

Check If You Are Affected

HEROIC's free breach scanner searches more than 400 billion records to identify whether your email address or passwords appear in known stealer log datasets, including this release. If your credentials are present, change your passwords immediately on every site where you use that email, enable two-factor authentication, and review recent account activity for unauthorized access.
