In May 2016, the Vietnamese gaming forum GameVN experienced a data breach, which was later included in a larger data collection. The compromised data from the XenForo-based forum consisted of 1.4 million unique email addresses, usernames, IP addresses, and passwords stored as salted MD5 hashes. This breach highlights the importance of implementing strong cybersecurity measures, as outdated encryption methods like MD5, even when salted, are vulnerable to attacks and should be replaced by more secure algorithms to protect user information effectively.
